Professional Development
2006-07 The Bridging Professional Development ProjectThe Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) is pleased to inform you of an exciting professional development opportunity for grades six - eight mathematics teachers. LHS/Alliance for Collaborative Change in School Systems (ACCESS), in collaboration with SRI International, is offering a two-year professional development program, which started last summer (2006) entitled, The Bridging Professional Development Project. By "bridging” we mean making connections between mathematics content teachers learn in workshops and the realities of teachers--really using this knowledge in teaching. Our mission is to bring innovative professional development to middle school mathematics teachers working with underachieving students. Throughout the 2006-07 academic year, teachers will meet monthly for support in applying what they learned in the summer to their classroom teaching. In summer 2007, teachers will be able to participate in an intensive two-week workshop (60 hours) at LHS.
In 2007-08, there may be an additional opportunity for teachers to continue meeting monthly. Bridging Professional Development Workshops in Summer 2007Week 1: June 18-22, 2007, 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m Teachers will receive a stipend over the course of these two years for participation and completion of project activities. Additional stipends will be available for the additional professional development. Application DeadlinePlease complete the teacher application and consent form by March 29, 2007.
