At the Institute Teachers and Parents will:

...Experience selected marine science curriculum pieces organized by habitat for each grade level.
...Participate in fieldtrips emphasizing the use of guided inquiry to study marine habitats.
...Learn about opportunities and tools for encouraging parental involvement.
...Work with technology tools to plan their implementation of the program.
...Discover existing resources for science in their own community.


After the Institute Teacher/Parent Leaders will:
  1. Lead professional development for teachers at their school site
  2. Make presentations to parents about the month-long program and the positive impact of family involvement in school activities
  3. Organize an Ocean Festival and other school-wide events
  4. Facilitate grade level planning for teaching marine science activities
  5. Work closely with Project Coordinator to implement the month-long Marine Science program
  6. Use the Web-tools for school planning, district planning, receiving support from LHS staff, checking in about progress and accessing resources for planning and implementing the program

 

Administrators and District personnel will:
  1. Provide opportunities for Teacher/Parent Leaders to work with staff and parents
  2. Allow for release days as needed in order to implement the program
  3. Provide a small budget for materials needed to conduct classroom marine science activities
