The Lawrence Hall of Science Center for School Change helps schools and school systems to respond effectively to the rapid pace of change in our society. The Center provides sustained, coordinated support for K–12 schools interested in achieving long-lasting systemic reform. Such support enables schools to develop comprehensive, inquiry-based science and mathematics programs. The Center focuses on the following elements of systemic reform: Curriculum Coordination, Integration and Alignment to Standards; Coordinated Professional Development; Equity and Access; Performance-Based Assessment; Parent and Family Involvement; Educational Technology; and Pre-Service Education. For more information, call (510) 642-9809 or send email to cstrang@uclink.berkeley.edu.

The Lawrence Hall of Science Center for Curriculum Innovation develops innovative instructional materials as well as professional and staff development methods. These methods and materials translate years of experience, research, theory, and the National Standards into exciting learning experiences in mathematics and science for children, parents, and educators. The Center builds and maintains professional networks to provide ongoing support and education in the use of these innovative materials and methods. Center staff also contribute to research, theory, and the creation of high standards for science and mathematics learning. For more information, call (510) 643-0672.

The Lawrence Hall of Science Public Science Center endeavors to reach the widest possible audience in the museum setting and beyond. Using the Hall’s innovative methods and materials, LHS creates effective exhibits, programs, and activities that show how science and mathematics concepts can produce enjoyable, accessible, and relevant educational experiences for families and schools. The science center is filled with experiences that make science and mathematics fun and personal, including engaging exhibits and events that immerse visitors of all ages in hands-on explorations and problem solving; a biology lab of live animals to see and hold; the LHS planetarium, where the audience members become scientists; stargazing from the LHS plaza; and playful scientific sculptures that allow for learning and climbing, while enjoying a spectacular view of the entire San Francisco Bay Area.
