Bill Unger was an early investor in industry start-up success stories like Sandisk, Silicon Architects, Calico Commerce, nChip, and Newport Communications, among many others. Today he serves on the boards of Fortressware, Bandspeed, and Papilia; and is on the advisory boards of several other privately held companies. He also somehow finds the time to serve on several nonprofit boards, such as CARE USA, youthNoise, and The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology; Advisory Boards of the Deans of Engineering of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Global Philanthropy Forum.
Shankar Sastry received his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, 1977; an M.S. in EECS, M.A. in Mathematics and Ph.D. in EECS from UC Berkeley, 1979, 1980, and 1981 respectively. Shankar Sastry is currently Dean of the College of Engineering. He is the NEC Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and holds faculty appointments in the Departments of Bioengineering, EECS, and Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining the EECS faculty in 1983, he was a professor at MIT. Lunch date to be mutually agreed to with Bill and Shankar. Expires May 9, 2009.
