Dean Schell’s professional path took root as a Harvard undergrad where he studied Far Eastern History. He continued at the University of California, Berkeley, with graduate work in Chinese History. And he’s devoted his professional life to reporting on and writing about Asia. Orville Schell’s noted contributions include:

  • Author of 14 books: nine about China, including Virtual Tibet
  • Mandate of Heaven, and Discos and Democracy.
  • Numerous articles published in Wired, The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, Harper’s, The New York Times, and other national magazines.

She is also a Certified Nutrition Consultant focused on educating people about real food—fresh, colorful, and nutritionally dense. Chef Der’s dinner will be prepared and served while you sit back and enjoy the evening with your guests, discussing topics such as “What preparations are being made for the Olympics in Beijing, and what do the Olympics mean to China? Can Taiwan remain independent? How does the Cultural Revolution still influence modern China? Will the 21st Century belong to China?” Date to be mutually agreed upon with Orville Schell and Chef Sandy Der. Expires May 9, 2009.
