Teaching Resources
We recognize that teachers need to have appropriate and useful
resources (and know how to find them) to teach effectively. MARE
offers
a large selection of print materials and a continuously growing
web-based directory of books, posters, media, manipulatives, guest
speakers, field trip ideas, and tips to assist teachers,
parents, and administrators in the successful
implementation of
the

MARE
K-8 Teacher Guides
The
core of the MARE program is the curriculum. Trial-tested
in classrooms nationally and designed for use in ethnically
and linguistically diverse classrooms,
the MARE curriculum incorporates
strategies
that promote second language acquisition and addresses
the issue of inclusion in science and environmental education.
Focusing
on a different aquatic habitat at each grade level, the
MARE curriculum includes enough lessons to integrate life,
earth, and physical
sciences with language arts, social studies, art, and
math in
a yearlong thematic program.

Parent Partners
The MARE Program is a school-wide celebration of our
marine environment. Students, teachers, administrators and parents
work together to transform an entire school into a laboratory
for the discovery and exploration of the ocean. To compliment
and extend learning beyond the classroom, the MARE curriculum
has a broad selection of home-based, Parent Partner activities.
Your students will bring home their overflowing enthusiasm
and new-found
interest
in the ocean and the creatures that live there. Parents can
share their skills and resources both at home and at school
to help students extend and apply the knowledge they gain
throughout the program. Other LHS Publications
Famed
for their ability to actively involve all students and teachers,
Lawrence Hall of Science instructional materials are
challenging and rigorous, research-based
and classroom tested for educational effectiveness. Units and
courses developed by LHS convey pivotal concepts and help students
develop essential abilities and can be used as strong support
to the educational goals of the National
Science Education Standards,
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards
as well as state frameworks and district guidelines.
