Who Killed Triceratops?A Workshop for Young Fossil DetectivesFor Immediate Release Be Sherlock Bones for a day with your own dig site. What do the fossilized bones of dinosaurs tell paleontologists about how these creatures lived and died? Put your skills to work examining skeleton models of Triceratops and T. rex. "In the workshop kids really act and pretend they're paleontologists," says presenter Dennis Schatz, author of 18 science books for children including Totally Dinosaurs and Uncover A T. rex. He is Vice-President for Education at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. "One of my goals is really to have kids think like scientists. I try to recreate what paleontologists think and what they do—including the human aspect: what they like and what they don't like—and to convey all of this in a way kids can comprehend. In the kits I create the kids go through all of the steps including creating a museum exhibit." This workshop will be held Saturday, January 14 at 11 a.m. Reservations are required, but the workshop is free with museum admission. To reserve a spot, call (510) 642-5134.
