Lincoln Bergman is Associate Director and Principal Editor of the Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) Program. He oversees the development and refinement of all GEMS publications. Bergman has co-authored five GEMS curriculum units (Earthworms, Investigating Artifacts, River Cutters, Learning About Learning, and Dry Ice Investigations) and many GEMS pedagogical handbooks (including Once Upon A GEMS Guide, Insights and Outcomes, The Architecture of Reform, The Rainbow of Mathematics, and Parent Partners). He is the lead author of the GEMS Network News, a biannual national newsletter. Bergman is also a poet and the author of numerous science-related poems featured in GEMS publications. He has served as primary playwright for five LHS Science Discovery Theatre productions: Inspector Spectrum Catches the Wave, Dino Doesn't Live Here Anymore, The Soap Opera, The Story of Itiba, and The Wizard of Odds. His previous experience includes an extensive background in media--as a journalist, radio news director, and foreign correspondent--as well as expertise in medical writing and continuing education for ophthalmologists. He attended Deep Springs College and Cornell University; and received an A.B. with Honors from the University of California at Berkeley, where he also did graduate work in journalism. |
