Network
A student radon research network currently exists, which is primarily comprised of middle and high schools located throughout the United States that have previously participated in field-tests of SRR curriculum elements. At each site students measure radon gas concentration levels in homes, schools, and soils. They also measure barometric pressure, soil temperature and moisture content, and rainfall. These measurements are then used to assess the relationship between radon emanation and local geological, geophysical, and meteorological phenomena. Overall, student research activities foster the development of important inquiry skills and provide them with a solid understanding of key science and mathematics concepts that will better prepare them for and encourage them to pursue more advanced studies. Although it is relatively small as present, the SRR network is expected to grow rapidly over the next two years, as a result of the imminent commercial publication and dissemination of the SRR curriculum.
